Privacy Policy
Effective Date: November 5, 2026
Last Updated: November 5, 2026
The short version
- We will never sell your personal information. Encore has no advertising, no ad networks, and no tracking of you across other companies' apps or websites.
- You choose who sees your profile. Only your name, username, photo and bio are visible to other Encore users. You decide, section by section, whether anything else is shown to your friends, to everyone, or to no one. You can lock your profile entirely.
- Your exact location stays on your phone. Your account stores the city you've chosen, never your precise position.
- Your messages are private to the people in the conversation. Our team reads them only in the situations listed in Section 5.2.
- During the beta we collect crash reports and usage counts (which screens and features get used, never what you write or search) so we can fix and improve Encore. You can turn usage counts off in the app.
- You can delete your account from the app at any time, and we delete your data as described in Section 8.
1. Who we are
Encore ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile app for discovering live music and going to shows with friends. It is operated by Sean McDow, an individual based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. If Encore is incorporated, this Policy will be updated to name the new operating entity.
- Email: support@encorelive.app
- Mailing address: P.O. Box 20392, Albuquerque, NM 87154
- Website: https://encorelive.app
This Policy explains what personal information Encore collects, how we use it, who can see it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Encore mobile app, the website at encorelive.app and any related services.
2. Who can use Encore
Encore is for people who are at least 13 years old and located in the United States. When you sign up, you confirm you're 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email support@encorelive.app.
Encore is not offered in the European Union, the United Kingdom or other places outside the United States.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and password. If you sign up with email, we send a link to confirm your address before you can use Encore. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the name and email address Apple shares with us, and that name becomes your display name (you can change it). You can choose to hide your email from us, in which case Apple gives us a private relay address. You can also link Sign in with Apple to an email account at Profile & settings › Account & your data. If we add other sign-in options (such as Google), we receive the same basic profile information from them.
- Your agreement. When you create your account, which version of the Terms of Service you agreed to and when, with your confirmation that you're 13 or older.
- Profile. Your display name, username, and optionally a profile photo, a short bio, a "soundtrack" of songs, and the friends you list as concert companions.
- Location preference. The city and state you want to see shows for, and how far to look. If you use "Use my current location," your phone works out your position and the nearest city. Your exact position stays on your phone, where it is used to find shows within your chosen distance, including in neighbouring states. Your account stores only the city (and the city's centre point), never your precise position.
- Music taste. The genres and artists you pick or follow.
- Your shows. The shows you mark as Going or Interested, and the "ticket stubs" of past shows you went to.
- Friends and safety. Friend requests you send and receive, your friends list, the people you block, and any reports you make: the reason you choose, any note you write, and a copy of the last 20 messages of your direct-message chat with that person, if you have one (Section 5.2).
- Messages. The content of your direct messages and group chats, including shows you share into them, plus group names and the shows added to a group's plans.
- Settings. Your notification choices and your privacy choices.
- Beta feedback. If you use "Send feedback," we receive what you write, the kind of feedback you chose, the screenshot you attach, if any, and your name and username. It comes with the same app details as a crash report (Section 3.2).
- Messages to support. Anything you send to support@encorelive.app.
3.2 Information collected automatically
- Crash reports. When the app hits an error, it records the error message and a technical trace, your app version, your phone's type and operating system version, the app style you use, and the last few screens and actions before the error (screen names and action names, not content). Crash reports are stored with your account ID, and are sent even if you turn usage counts off, because we need them to fix problems.
- Usage counts (beta). Counts of which screens you open and which features you use (for example "marked a show Going" or "sent a message"), how many times you open the app, and how long you use it. These are counts only. We never collect the text of your messages, your searches or other things you type. They are stored with your account, so our team can see how each beta tester uses Encore. During the beta this is on by default; turn it off at Profile & settings › Privacy & who sees what › Share usage with Encore. The setting is saved on each phone. We will review this default before the public launch, and this Policy will say what we decide.
- Online status. While you have the app open, a flag and a "last active" time so your friends can see when you're around.
- Push notification tokens. An identifier for each phone you're signed in on, so we can deliver the notifications you've turned on.
- App check. When the app talks to our servers, it sends a token from Apple (App Attest or DeviceCheck), checked by Google Firebase, showing the request comes from the real Encore app on a real iPhone. It identifies the app, not you.
- Sign-in records. Our sign-in provider (Google Firebase Authentication) records when your account was created and last signed in, and the IP address used to sign in, for security and fraud prevention.
Your recent searches are kept only on your phone, not on our servers.
3.3 What we don't collect
Encore does not collect or use:
- advertising identifiers (Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID);
- your location in the background, or your precise location on our servers;
- your microphone or contacts. The camera is used only if you choose to take a new profile photo, and only the photo you keep is uploaded;
- your browsing history outside the app;
- web cookies. The app is a native app, and our website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers.
4. How we use your information
- To run Encore: sign you in, save your shows and settings, deliver messages and notifications, connect you with friends, and show concerts near the place you've chosen.
- To personalise it: recommend shows based on the artists and genres you like and what your friends are going to. Each recommendation says why it's there.
- To keep people safe: review reports, act on abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and prevent spam and fraud.
- To fix and improve Encore: use crash reports, usage counts and feedback to find bugs and learn which features help.
- To talk to you: answer your support messages and send account emails such as password resets and email verification. We do not send marketing email.
- To meet legal obligations: respond to valid legal requests.
We do not use your information to show you ads, and we do not build advertising profiles.
5. Who can see what
5.1 Other Encore users
- Anyone signed in to Encore can find you by name or username and see your name, username, photo and bio.
- Everything else on your profile (your soundtrack, show stats, artists you've seen live, recent shows, favourite venues, concert companions and your city) is shown only to the audience you choose for each section: everyone, friends or no one. Unless you change them, these sections are visible to your friends only, and your city is hidden from everyone. Change them at Profile & settings › Privacy & who sees what. Lock profile hides all of it from everyone, friends included.
- Your friends see the shows you mark Going or Interested (turn off "Show my concert plans" to stop this) and your online status.
- Direct messages are only possible between friends. Group chats include whoever a member added; members of a group can see each other's names and photos in that group.
- Your friends list isn't shown to anyone.
- Blocking: someone you block can't find you, see your profile, message you or add you to groups, and in any group you share, your messages and theirs are hidden from each other. They are not told.
5.2 The Encore team
Our team can access the data in our systems, but uses it only for the purposes in Section 4. We read private messages only:
- when you report someone, or someone reports you;
- to protect someone's safety or investigate serious abuse;
- when the law requires it;
- or when you ask us to look into a problem with a conversation you're in.
When someone is reported, the last 20 messages of the reporter's direct-message chat with them (from both people) are copied into the report, so we can see what happened even if the chat is later deleted. Only our team sees reports, and each time we open a report's messages, it's logged.
Messages are encrypted in transit and stored encrypted by our cloud provider. They are not end-to-end encrypted, which is why we limit our own access in this way.
6. Who we share information with
6.1 Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Encore. They process information only to provide their service to us:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): hosting for our sign-in, databases, file storage (profile photos and feedback screenshots), server functions and website, in the United States. Governed by the Firebase Data Processing Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Expo (Expo, Inc.), Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver push notifications. They receive your phone's push token and the text of each notification (for example a message preview). Expo also delivers app updates: when the app checks for one, Expo sees your IP address and basic details about the app. See expo.dev/privacy.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple (if you use it), push notifications, and App Attest / DeviceCheck, which confirm requests come from the real Encore app.
- Zoho (Zoho Corporation): our email provider for support@encorelive.app.
- Apple TestFlight (beta testers only): if you test Encore through TestFlight, Apple shares with us the crash reports and feedback you send through TestFlight, along with basic device details, under Apple's own privacy policy.
6.2 Content loaded from other services
Some content in the app loads directly from other companies' servers. Like any web request, this lets them see your phone's IP address, but we send them no account information:
- Music previews play from Deezer. When you search for a song for your soundtrack, what you type is sent to Deezer to find it.
- Photos of artists, venues and shows may load from the venue's, ticket seller's or artist-image provider's servers.
- Ticket links open the seller's website, usually the venue's own, in your browser. What you do there is covered by that seller's privacy policy.
Concert listings themselves are gathered by our own systems from public sources. Those sources receive nothing about you.
6.3 Never for advertising or sale
We will never sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or put advertising networks or ad trackers in Encore. These are standing commitments, not just a description of today.
6.4 Legal requests and safety
We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process (such as a subpoena or court order), or when we believe in good faith it's necessary to protect someone's safety or the rights and safety of Encore and its users.
6.5 If Encore changes hands
If Encore is acquired, merged or transfers its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. It will remain covered by the commitments in this Policy, including Section 6.3. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
7. Your choices
- Edit your profile, music taste, location and notifications in Profile & settings at any time.
- Choose who sees each part of your profile, or lock it, in Profile & settings › Privacy & who sees what.
- Turn off usage counts in the same place, under Share usage with Encore.
- Turn notifications off, all of them or by category, in Profile & settings › Notifications, or in your phone's settings.
- Block or report someone from the ⋯ menu on their profile.
- Get a copy of your data: choose Profile & settings › Account & your data › Export my data, or email support@encorelive.app from your account's email address.
- Delete your account (Section 8).
8. Deleting your account
Delete your account in the app at Profile & settings › Account & your data › Delete account. Without the app, email support@encorelive.app from your account's email address; we will confirm it's you and delete the account within 30 days. Instructions are also at encorelive.app/delete-account. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple asks you to confirm, and we tell Apple to disconnect Encore from your Apple ID.
When you delete your account, we delete:
- your profile (name, username, photo, bio, soundtrack, companions) and your sign-in record;
- your saved shows, ticket stubs, music taste, settings and notifications;
- your friends list, friend requests and blocks;
- your place in every group chat, and your conversation list;
- your beta feedback and screenshots, your usage counts, and your traces in crash reports;
- your push tokens and online status.
Your username becomes available to others.
What stays:
- Messages you sent stay in the conversations of the people you sent them to, shown as from "Deleted account." Deleting them would erase the other person's chat history.
- In group chats, a note saying a deleted account left, and earlier notes such as "[name] joined the group," which keep the name you had then.
- Reports you made about someone else are kept so our team can act on them, but with your account and your name removed from them, including from the messages copied into them.
- Reports other people made about you, with the messages copied into them, are kept for up to 2 years so we can act on repeat abuse.
- Notifications already sent to other people (for example "Sam sent you a message") stay in their inbox until they expire after 90 days.
- A small placeholder record with no personal information, so other people's chats can show "Deleted account."
Deleted data can remain in our backups for up to 7 days before it is overwritten.
9. How long we keep information
- Your account data: for as long as your account exists, then deleted as described in Section 8.
- Usage counts: up to 12 months, then deleted automatically.
- Crash reports: up to 12 months after the error last happened, then deleted automatically.
- Notifications in your inbox: 90 days, then deleted automatically.
- Beta feedback and reports about people: up to 2 years, then deleted automatically, so we can spot repeated problems and repeat abuse.
- Backups: up to 7 days.
- Server logs (which can include IP addresses): up to 30 days.
- Sign-in records: kept by Google Firebase Authentication under Google's retention policies.
We keep information longer only where the law requires it.
10. Security
Our databases are locked down by access rules so that your data can be read only by you and the people you've allowed. Actions that affect other people (friendships, groups, blocks, account deletion) run on our servers rather than on your phone. Requests from the app carry a token showing they come from the real Encore app (Firebase App Check), and an email account must confirm its address before it can use Encore. Data is encrypted in transit and stored encrypted by our cloud provider. No system is perfectly secure; if a security incident affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on the state you live in (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and others with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we have about you and how we use it;
- get a copy of it;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- opt out of the sale of your information, targeted advertising and certain profiling. We do none of these, and we have not sold or shared personal information for advertising in the past 12 months;
- appeal if we decline a request;
- not be treated differently for using these rights.
To use any of these rights, email support@encorelive.app from your account's email address. We'll verify it's you and respond within 45 days. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and we'll explain our final decision.
12. Changes to this Policy
When we update this Policy, we'll change the "Last Updated" date above. For significant changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
